Description

The People’s Salute was written in the summer of 2022 for Samuel Stoll, to whom it is dedicated. The title is a reference to the practice in the piobaireachd tradition of Scottish bagpipe music of naming tunes after particular individuals, often clan chieftains or musicians. As in piobaireachd, The People’s Salute begins with a melody (in this case derived from that of ‘L’Internationale’) that is subjected to strict variations in the subsequent movements.
