Description

Six Variations
Six Variations is not a set of variations in the usual sense. Eight parts are derived from two very closely related and complementary sixths with their inversions, retrograde and inverted retrograde forms. The variations originate through the combination of these eight groups of sixths ini six different set sequences and pitches. The varying is also aided by strong contrasts between the six short pieces. The closely bound, interval-drawn pitches are mainly for coherence and compactness. The work avoids extravagance. Due to its brevity and conciseness, it may be compared rather to a finely constructed miniature.

Chacona
Thsi composition is based on a three part theme in four. Insted of virtuosity in the usual sense, the “Chacona”, with its transparent thematic treatment, displays a great dynamic range, as well as surprising tonal effects, and highlights the full potential of the instrument.
