Description

The 4 poems for piano originated as single pieces which can also be performed individually.

The first poem, Sudden Brightness, is based on a precipitous incidence of light. The next two poems are birthday wishes which playfully incorporate the notes from the names Peter Michael Hamel (No. 2) and Hans Otte (No. 3). The fourth poem, Nights with Stars – A Prayer, is a requiem. It resembles the poem “Ageless Night” by South African author Sandile Dikeni in both content and form.
