Astor Piazzolla
The Argentinian composer and bandoeon player Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) is one of the most important figures of Tango Nuevo. He had a revolutionary impact on traditional tango music by integrating elements of jazz and classical music. Piazzolla created innovative works that expanded the boundaries of tango and led to his worldwide recognition. Compositions such as “Libertango” shaped the contemporary music landscape and influenced numerous musicians across genres.
The transcriptions of Piazzolla’s compositions for guitar in our series “El Arte del Tango” by Agustin Calevaro show that the delicacy of the guitar sound can bring a new light to the tango without sacrificing the basic ideas of the original compositions.
